Dr. Bates Gill, Director of the Stockholm Institute for Peace Research (SIPRI), gave a lecture to students and faculty on his research about Chinese peacekeeping activities on April 27.

The lecture was hosted by NWC's China Maritime Studies Institute (CMSI).  Gill also met with NWC's China experts and discussed ways to deepen expertise on Chinese peacekeeping policies in order to enhance cooperation in confronting global security challenges.

In recent years, China's People's Liberation Army has increased its participation in a broadening array of multilateral security arrangements.  One of the most high-profile aspects of this trend has been the dramatic expansion in deployments of Chinese peacekeepers to United Nations operations.  Since 2000, when China deployed fewer than 100 peacekeepers, there has been a 20-fold increase.
