Welcome to the Senior Enlisted Academy!

The Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (SEA) provides senior enlisted leaders education in communication skills, leadership and management, national security affairs, Navy programs, and physical fitness.

The SEA is the Navy's only Professional Military Education (PME) institute for our senior enlisted force. Of the 1,200 students in attendance annually, the majority are active duty Navy personnel. Navy Reserve, Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, and International service members make up the remainder of the student population.

The SEA has been successful in preparing senior enlisted leaders for positions of greater responsibilities since 1981.  As a result of that success, graduation from the SEA has long been a requirement before assuming the position of Command Master Chief or Chief of the Boat.  Additionally, for E8s selected in FY17 and beyond, graduation from the SEA will be a prerequisite for promotion to E9.

For Active Duty military, the 12-week Active Component Course (ACC) course is comprised of 9-weeks Distance Learning (DL) followed by 3-weeks of in-residence education in Newport, RI.  There is 1-week of Admin/Travel between the two phases, making the course 13 weeks from start to finish.  During the DL phase students read, write papers, and interact with instructors and each other via the Blackboard Learning Management System.  Students can expect approximately 8 to 10 hours of academic work each during the 9-week DL phase.

For Reservists, the 8-week Reserve Component Course (RCC) is comprised of 6-weeks of DL and 2-weeks of in-residence education.  There is
1-week of Admin/Travel between the two phases, making the course 9-weeks from start to finishDuring the DL phase students read, write papers, and interact with instructors and each other via the Blackboard Learning Management System.  Students can expect approximately 8 to 10 hours of academic work each during the 9-week DL phase.

Both Active Duty and Reservists formats require completion of online PME prior to attending.  See the "
SEA Mandatory Prerequisite" link in the right-hand menu for more information.
