Lieutenant Commander David Nava graduated from the University of Washington, where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Zoology. Ensign Nava was designated a Naval Flight Officer at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida, in December of 2000.
Lieutenant (jg) Nava reported to Electronic Attack Squadron 129 in March 2001, where he qualified as an Electronic Counter-Measures Officer (ECMO) in the EA-6B Prowler. In February 2002, Lieutenant (jg) Nava reported to Electronic Attack Squadron 133 where he completed three expeditionary deployments. He flew over 100 combat missions in support of Operations NORTHERN WATCH and ENDURING FREEDOM.
In April 2005 Lieutenant Nava reported to the Joint Information Operations Warfare Command where he served as the PACOM Support Team’s Electronic Warfare and Information Operations Planner. While there, he deployed in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM – Philippines and took part in numerous joint exercises throughout the PACOM AOR. In addition, Lieutenant Nava completed the Air Command and Staff College JPME Level 1 course via correspondence. 
In February of 2008 Lieutenant Nava reported to the staff of Commander, Carrier Strike Group THREE as the N391 Electronic Warfare Officer. While there he completed a WESTPAC deployment, qualifying Information Operations Watch Officer (IOWO) and Fleet Tactical Action Officer (FTAO).
In May 2010 Lieutenant Commander Nava reported to Electronic Attack Squadron 140 for his operational department head tour. Serving as the Electronic Warfare and Safety Department Heads, he completed a second deployment in support of Operation ENDURING Freedom and qualified as a SEAD Element Lead.
Lieutenant Commander Nava reported to the U.S. Naval War College in August of 2012 where he earned a Masters of Arts Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies. He is currently assigned to the War Gaming Department.

Lieutenant Commander Nava earned his Project Management Professional (PMP) certificate in 2014 and is currently working on his MBA.
He has over 1100 EA-6B flight hours. His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (sixth award), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (second award), and various campaign and service medals.
