The Maritime History Department of the Center for Naval Warfare Studies serves as the central resource and contact point for the Naval War College in maritime history subject matters. Its research specialties include: the history of the theory and practice of naval and maritime strategy; the history of naval operations in all periods; the history of naval activities in the Narragansett Bay region since the age of exploration; and the history of the Naval War College since 1884. The principal advisor on maritime and naval history research, the Ernest J. King Professor of Maritime History, publishes academic-quality books and provides information and advice on naval and maritime history subject matters.
