Newport, On-base Lodging Options
A block of rooms are reserved for arriving MSOC students at the Navy Gateway Inns and Suites (NGIS) well in advance of class convening dates. If a student is confirmed on the MSOC Roster, they will have a room waiting for them. Be sure to identify yourself as an MSOC student when speaking with the NGIS front desk. The military student population is growing in Newport and available berthing is currently very tight.
Some key points to understand are:
a. Do not attempt to make your own room reservation. This often causes confusion. Just tell them you are an MSOC student and that a room has been reserved for you.
b. Pets are not allowed at the NGIS.
c. MSOC students typically receive unaccompanied orders. Coordinate with NGIS if a spouse or family is staying with you during the five week class.
d. Rooms will not be held for no-shows. If you are going to arrive late, call to have your room held. If you intend to arrive early, call and coordinate with NGIS and MSOC Admin (401-841-3685).
e. If you desire to stay elsewhere (ie. Navy Lodge), keep in mind that without a Certificate of Non- Availability (CNA), you will only be reimbursed the lowest NGIS day rate. (Currently $56.00)
f. The following meal rates apply: Gov’t Quarters Available= Proportial Meal Rate (PMR) No Gov’t Quarters Available= Commercial Meal Rate (CMR)
g. NGIS customer service is located in Building 1312. Tel: 401-841-7900; DNS: 841-7900. This includes the Newport Chalet.
h. Navy Lodge; Tel: 800-628-9466 or locally 401-849-4500. Keep in mind that PCS families have priority at the Lodge.
