Tim Garrold is the Deputy Director of the College of Distance Education. He joined the faculty in 2003 while on active duty and, upon retirement from the U.S. Navy in 2006 following a 32-year career in Surface Warfare that included command at sea and command ashore, he joined the faculty as a civilian academic. Dr. Garrold’s fields of interest and research include military and educational leadership and ethics, organizational culture and structure, and maritime strategy. His doctoral dissertation, Military Leaders’ Self Perceived Roles as College and University Presidents focuses on leadership in higher education. Professor Garrold received a BS degree from the United States Naval Academy in 1981, an MA degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College in 1999, and an Ed. D in Educational Leadership (Higher Education) from Johnson & Wales University in 2014. He is also an Associate Professor of Joint Maritime Operations.
