David Burbach, Ph.D.
National Security Affairs
Dr. David T. Burbach is an Associate Professor of National Security Affairs
at the Naval War College, where he teaches courses on force planning,
national strategy, and regional security. Dr. Burbach received a B.A. in
Government from Pomona College, and earned a Ph.D. in Political Science from
the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2004. Before coming to
Newport, Dr. Burbach spent two years on the faculty of the U.S. Army's
School of Advanced Military Studies in Leavenworth, KS. He has also served
as a defense policy analyst for the RAND Corporation and as a technology
consultant to private-sector firms. Dr. Burbach has written on the politics
of American national security policy, particularly on the relationship
between Presidential decision-making and public opinion. His other areas of
expertise include nuclear strategy and arms control, European regional
security, and energy and environmental policy.
