NEWPORT, R.I. -- Jeffrey R. Immelt, the ninth chairman of GE, presented "The Importance of Culture" at the U.S. Naval War College evening lecture on Nov. 13.

He discussed the value of culture and what it means in a business context.  Mr. Immelt shared the main pillars of GE’s culture, such as being mission based and solutions oriented, and how those pillars help GE take on some the world’s toughest challenges.  He also talked about the value of leadership, offering a positive model for uncertain times.

The event was the academic year 2012-13 Admiral Raymond A. Spruance Lecture which honors a great naval hero of World War II and past president of the College.

The lecture was sponsored by the Naval War College Foundation through the generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Harold B. Finn III.

The views expressed by Mr. Immelt are his own and not those of the U.S. Naval War College, the U.S. Navy, or any other government entity.
