OUR MISSION
To play a leading role in providing timely, objective analysis to senior Navy, Joint, and other USG decision makers on major strategic, operational, and programmatic issues.
The Decision Support Center (DSC) provides an innovative environment for decision-making. Our capabilities fall into four categories:
- Analytic methodologies, decision support and warfare analysis tools that allow groups to brainstorm, evaluate, and prioritize critical problems and weigh alternative courses of action;
- High-tech communications that bring information systems, databases, and expertise together to solve critical problems;
- Multimedia tools that allow clear visualizations of complex situations;
- Research and technical staff who can use these tools in facilitating discussion and producing cohesive analysis.
We are experts at talking to experts:
- WAR Department research methodology often includes assembling a group of multidisciplined subject matter experts from government, business, academia, the military, and non-government organizations.
- WAR Department facilitators and technographers then employ decision tools and methods to lead the group through a series of exercises that allows extensive data to be gathered real time on the subject being researched.
The concept of the DSC -- marrying decision methodology, data collection and analysis, design techniques, and supportive technology and software, while interacting with commands and agencies throughout the world -- has been validated. A variety of Navy, Joint, and Interagency organizations have tasked the WAR Department to support a wide range of decision-making and concept development tasks. In addition, WAR Department has pioneered a series of economic security exercises. These events have engaged naval planners, representatives of other government agencies, and members of the financial community to analyze issues of common concern using decision support tools and gaming techniques. The Warfare Analysis and Research Department looks forward to a dynamic future in support of national security decision making.
The staff of seven has a diverse set of skills and experience.
These include: programmatic, political-military, economic, logistics, manpower, and information system expertise.
In addition, the Naval War College has an array of resources in its teaching, research and war gaming departments to help identify and address problems and marshal information.
