The Advanced Research Program provides selected students at the Naval War College
an opportunity to undertake an extensive Advanced Research Project (ARP) during
their period of residence in Newport. Suitably qualified students may apply to undertake
such a project in any trimester in lieu of one of the core courses of the Naval
War College curriculum, under the guidance of a member of the teaching or research
faculty of the college. Project proposals are formally reviewed by a committee of
the faculty and approved by the President of the college. The product of an Advanced
Research Project is a substantial, thesis-style paper of original research, which
is graded as the equivalent of the core course it replaces.
