Master Chief Young enlisted in the United States Navy in 1983 and attended Recruit Training in Great Lakes, IL.
    Upon graduation from ABH “A” School at Naval Air Technical Training Center (NATTC) Lakehurst, NJ in 1984, he reported to Naval Air Station Whiting Field where he served as a Crash Crewman. After completing ABH “C” School in 1987, he was assigned to USS Forrestal (CV 59) and performed the duties of the Fly Two Petty Officer. In 1989, he transferred to USS America (CV 66) and served as the Fly Three Petty Officer. His next assignment was with Fleet Logistics Support Squadron FOUR ZERO (VRC 40) as the Hazardous Materials Coordinator. He then reported aboard USS Enterprise (CVN 65) in 1992, and performed the duties of Flight Deck Leading Petty Officer. In 1994, he transferred to NATTC Millington, TN where he served as an ABH ”C” School Instructor.
    Master Chief Young transferred to USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) in 1998 and performed the duties of Flight Deck Leading Chief Petty Officer. In 2002, he reported aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6), serving as the Air Department Leading Chief Petty Officer. His next assignment was Commander, Amphibious Group THREE in San Diego, CA where he served as a member of the Aviation Training/Aircraft Handling Team. After terminating his shore duty, he attended and graduated from the U.S Navy Senior Enlisted Academy, (114 Gold). Master Chief Young reported aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) in 2005 and served as the Air Department Leading Chief Petty Officer. He is currently assigned to the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy as a staff member.
    His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (6 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement medal (4 awards) and various unit and campaign decorations.
