Lieutenant Colonel Mike Winkler, USAF, is a Military Professor of Strategy & Policy at the Naval War College. He graduated from the United States Air Force Academy in 1991 with a B.S. in Engineering, and has earned M.S. degrees from the Air Command and Staff College and the Naval War College, with the majority of research for both degrees involving the most efficient and effective use of airpower in counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism campaigns. He is a distinguished graduate from the United States Air Force Weapons Instructor Course.
Lieutenant Colonel Winkler is an F-15 “Eagle” pilot with combat experience in Operations NORTHERN WATCH, SOUTHERN WATCH, NOBLE EAGLE, ENDURING FREEDOM, and IRAQI FREEDOM. His previous assignment was as Commander, 60th Fighter Squadron, Eglin AFB, Florida.
