CDR Kevin Canney is currently on Active Duty orders as a Research Assistant and Project Officer supporting the War Game Department at The Naval War College. Over the past three years he has been an assistant Program Director for Maritime Strategy Projects such as The Current Strategy Forum and the CNO’s Conversation with the Country.
CDR Canney earned a B.S. in Political Science at Northeastern University and was commissioned a 2nd. Lt. in the Marine Corps in 1984 at OCS Quantico, VA. He was designated a Naval Aviator in 1986.
From 1987-1992; CDR Canney’s Active Duty assignment was with HMH-462 flying the CH-53 Sea Stallion at MCAS Tustin, CA. He performed three tours with HMH-462, which included nine months supporting Desert Shield and Desert Storm where he was awarded 2 Air Medals.
CDR Canney inter-service transferred to the Navy Reserve in 1993 and was affiliated with VR-62 at NAS South Weymouth, MA and NAS Brunswick, ME until 2005. CDR Canney has amassed over 2,300 flight hours flying the C-130 Hercules on worldwide logistic missions which included 28 deployments to Bahrain, Italy, and Japan.
When not serving on Active Duty, CDR Canney is a Commercial Airline Pilot for American Airlines.
