Lt Col Justin Speegle is an Air Force helicopter pilot currently serving on the JMO faculty at NWC. He joined the NWC faculty in 2009 and has taught joint military operations course in the Reserve Officers Operations Course, the Naval Staff College, the College of Naval Command and Staff and the College of Naval Warfare.
Lt Col Speegle began his military career as a Marine and has a diverse academic and operational background. He received his wings in 1991 and was assigned to a light attack helicopter squadron in Camp Pendleton where he completed two unit deployments to Okinawa and two West Pac deployments with the 31st and 35th MEUs. In 1996, he transitioned to the U.S. Air Force and served as an instructor/evaluator with the 1st Helicopter Squadron at Andrews AFB, Maryland. There he served as the 89th Operations Group executive officer and as a presidential advance agent for President Clinton. Next Lt Col Speegle did a white jet tour flying T-37's at Columbus AFB Mississippi. Following his instructor tour, he completed a command tour at Minot AFB, North Dakota where he commanded the 54th Helicopter Flight. He attended Air Command and Staff College (ACSC) in 2005 and served as the class president. Upon graduation, he joined the ACSC faculty and completed an Afghanistan short tour. Before coming to Newport, he was the 42d Air Base Wing Inspector General.
Lt Col Speegle earned his undergraduate degree in Libral Studies from Long Beach State University and has Master’s degrees from Air University and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
