Lieutenant Colonel Jeff Winters, U.S. Army, joined the National Security Affairs faculty in July 2010 and teaches Policy Analysis in the National Security Decision Making (NSDM) and Theater Security Decision Making (TSDM) sub-courses.
He was commissioned through Army ROTC in 1987 from Western Illinois University. Following company grade assignments in Infantry and Armor units in Germany and at Fort Riley, Kansas, he saw duty as a Tactical officer and Operations officer at the United States Military Academy and as a Squadron Operations officer in South Korea. LTC Winters then served three consecutive assignments in Canada with duties as an Operations and Plans officer at the Canadian Forces Joint Operations Group (CFJOG); Small Group Instructor at the Canadian Land Force Command Staff College (CLFCSC); and liaison to the Land Force Doctrine and Training System (LFDTS).
In addition to a Bachelor of Arts degree in History Education, LTC Winters holds a Master of Science degree in Education from Long Island University (Eisenhower Leadership Program) and is a graduate of the US Army Command and General Staff College and the US Army War College Defense Strategy Course.
A combat veteran of Desert Storm, he has also twice deployed for Operation Enduring Freedom with service as the Operations officer for Task Force Kabul in 2003 and as Chief, Current Operations at ISAF Headquarters in 2008-09.
