Profile
Captain Hendricks graduated with distinction from the University of Virginia in 1983 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and was commissioned through the NROTC program. He also is a 2010 graduate of the U.S. Naval War College where he earned a Master of Arts Degree with distinction in National Security and Strategic Studies.
Captain Hendricks has served on five submarines. He commanded USS ALEXANDRIA (SSN 757) from June 2000 to June 2003. Under his command, ALEXANDRIA completed an Arabian Gulf and Mediterranean deployment with the USS HARRY S TRUMAN Battle Group and completed the only Improved 688 Depot-Modernization Period accomplished in less than 11 months. During his tour, the ship was awarded the Battle Efficiency “E” for combat readiness in 2001. In earlier operational assignments, he was assigned in USS PHOENIX (SSN 702) as a division officer, USS GUITARRO (SSN 665) as engineer officer, and USS ATLANTA (SSN 712) where he served as combat systems officer. He served as executive officer in USS MICHIGAN (SSBN 727) (BLUE).
Captain Hendricks has also served in a variety of shore-duty assignments including his most recent as Chief of Staff for Submarine Group TWO in Groton, CT from August 2008 to October 2009. In earlier assignments, he served as Commander, Regional Support Group Groton where he was responsible for submarine maintenance and repair at Submarine Base New London and as Chief Staff Officer and Director of Tactical Development for Submarine Development Squadron TWELVE. Captain Hendricks also served as exchange officer with the Royal Australian Submarine Squadron in Perth, Australia, at the Bureau of Naval Personnel in Washington, D.C. as the Submarine Post-Department Head Detailer, as Aide and Flag Lieutenant to the Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff, U. S. Atlantic Fleet, and as a submarine watch officer for Commander, Submarine Force, U. S. Atlantic Fleet.
Captain Hendricks reported to the Navy War College in November 2010 where he is currently a member of the Military Faculty in the Strategy and Policy Department.
