CDR Christopher Gray is a Game Director in the War Gaming Department, Center for Naval Warfare Studies. CDR Gray entered the Navy in 1985 through the Navy ROTC program and was commissioned in 1989 after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
As a division officer, CDR Gray served on USS OPPORTUNE (ARS 41), USS MOINESTER (FF 1097), and USS RICHMOND K TURNER (CG 20) and deployed in support of Operation Desert Storm, and Operation Sharp Guard/Deny Flight. CDR then served ashore as Division Head of Division Officer Combat System Core training at Surface Warfare Officer School (SWOS) Command in Newport RI. While assigned to SWOS, CDR Gray completed Joint Professional Military Education through the Naval War College Fleet Seminar Program in Newport and earned his master’s degree in International Relations from Salve Regina University. Following the department head training pipeline, CDR Gray served as Operations Officer onboard USS FITZGERALD (DDG 62), deploying in support of Operation Desert Fox and then onboard USS MONTEREY (CG 61). CDR Gray then became a Plankowner of USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76) while serving as the commissioning Damage Control Assistant. CDR Gray’s most recent operational tour was as Anti-Terrorism and Force Protection Officer on the staff of Commander, Carrier Strike Group 12.
Most recently, CDR Gray served at the Führungsakademie der Bundeswehr in Hamburg, Germany as the U.S. Navy Liaison Officer. In this role he provided exercise support to Navy and Joint exercises held at the operational and tactical levels as well as instructing German, NATO and international students. He was recognized during this tour through award of the Ehrenkreuz der Bundeswehr, silver level.
