Dr. Pollack is director of the Strategic Research Department in the Naval War College's Center for Naval Warfare Studies and chairman of the Asia-Pacific Studies Group. The papers he has collected in this volume were first presented at the Naval War College's Asia-Pacific Forum, held here in Newport on 6-7 February 2003.
