Rick Johnson is a Cubic Applications, Inc. Senior Military Analyst in the War Gaming Department, Center for Naval Warfare Studies.
Mr. Johnson received his Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies (with highest distinction) from the U.S. Naval War College, a Juris Doctor (magna cum laude) from Vermont Law School, a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, and a Bachelor of Science in Oceanography (with merit) from the U.S. Naval Academy.
Mr. Johnson’s primary research interests are maritime homeland security/defense issues. He manages the U.S. Naval War College’s Maritime Homeland Security/Defense Planners’ Workshop, which is presented to the U.S. Navy’s numbered fleets, U.S. Coast Guard Areas, and Geographic Combatant Command staffs. He also serves as a war game designer and war game facilitator.
Mr. Johnson is also a Colonel in the United States Marine Corps, currently serving as the Vice Chief of Staff for Marine Forces Reserve and is responsible for managing several Civil Affairs Groups, Air-Naval Gunfire Liaison Companies, and an Intelligence Battalion. Previous assignments include being the Senior International Affairs Analyst in National Defense University’s Center for Applied Strategic Learning, a Commanding Officer of a KC-130T squadron, a strategic planner at U.S. Joint Forces Command, and an Intelligence Officer.
Mr. Johnson is actively engaged in various community service projects in the Norfolk, VA area.
