Profile
Commander Philip J. Beckman graduated with distinction from the United States Naval Academy in 1990. Following commissioning he served on USS TAUTOG (SSN639) and conducted two Western Pacific deployments. In 1997, Commander Beckman was assigned as the Combat Systems Officer and Special Projects Officer on USS BATFISH (SSN681). While onboard BATFISH he completed an around the world deployment. His second department head tour was on USS AUGUSTA (SSN 710) as the Engineer Officer. While on AUGUSTA he completed a Northern Atlantic Deployment. He was the Executive Officer on PCU HAWAII (SSN 776) and the Navigator on PCU NEW HAMPSHIRE (SSN 778).
Ashore, Commander Beckman served on the staff of Submarine Development Squadron TWELVE as the Submarine Vulnerability Officer and on the staff of Submarine Group TWO as the Material/Readiness Officer. He also served on the staff of Navy Warfare and Development Command in the newly formed Concept Directorate. While ashore, Commander Beckman also earned a Masters of Science degree in Operation Analysis from the Naval Postgraduate School and a Masters in Engineering Management from Old Dominion University.
