Captain Michael J. Fitzpatrick, U.S. Navy teaches in the Joint Military Operations Department at the U.S. Naval War College bringing significant experience in multi-national operations and joint planning to the faculty. 
 
Captain Fitzpatrick began teaching at the Naval War College in August 2008 following a four year tour at the NATO Joint Force Command Brunssum in The Netherlands, the senior NATO Headquarters to the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) mission in Afghanistan. At JFC Brunssum, he served as an operational planner and Branch Head in the J5 Division which dealt with Plans and Policies. He is a Naval Aviator with experience in several models of helicopters and a qualified Surface Warfare Officer. As an H-46D pilot based in San Diego, California, his operational flying tours included deployments throughout the western Pacific and Indian Oceans as well as service in the Persian Gulf. While based in Sicily, he commanded an MH-53E squadron which supported both Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM with detachments based throughout the Mediterranean and in several Middle Eastern states.  
 
He is a graduate of the Armed Forces Staff College and is a Joint Qualified Officer (JQO). Captain Fitzpatrick holds a B.S. from the United States Naval Academy, a M.S. from the University of Maryland and a M.A. from the United States Naval War College.
