Lieutenant Colonel James D. Sheridan, U.S. Air Force, joined the National Security Affairs department in August 2011 and currently instructs Policy Analysis. He is a 1991 graduate from the United States Air Force Academy where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Science.
Lt Col Sheridan continued his education while serving on active duty and earned a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree from City University in 1996. Lt Col Sheridan's professional military education includes Squaron Officer's School (Distinguished Graduate) in 1997, a Masters of Logistics from the Air Force Institute of Technology as Intermediate Developmental Eduction in 2006, and Air War College, by correspondence, in 2007.
Lt Col Sheridan earned his wings as a Distinguished Graduate from Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training (ENJJPT) in 1992. He has served three operational flying assignments as a C-5 Pilot/Instrutor/Evaluator as well as an assignment as a primary flight instructor at ENJJPT. He has amassed more than 4,500 flight hours in support of numerous operations, to include ENDURING FREEDOM, IRAQI FREEDOM, NORTHERN WATCH, SOUTHERN WATCH, SUPPORT HOPE (Somalia), RESTORE HOPE (Rwanda), UPHOLD DEMOCRACY (Haiti), ALLIED FORCE (Kosovo), and Presidential PHOENIX BANNER missions.
Lt Col Sheridan's non-flying assignments have included a tour as a Contingency Airlift Operations planner for theater airlift culminating in a 2008 deployment as the Air Mobility Control Team Chief responsible for the daily execution of theater airlift operations at the Combined Air and Space Operations Center in the CENTCOM Area of Responsibility. Prior to arriving at the Naval War College, Lt Col Sheridan served as the Installation Inspector General for Ramstein Air Base, Germany where he oversaw the installation's complaint resolution process, Fraud/Waste/Abuse program, and Congressional Inquiries. During his tenure, he was named as the top IG in United States Air Forces in Europe for 2009 and 2010 and the top United States Air Force active duty IG in 2009.
Lt Col Sheridan is married with two children.
