Profile

Captain D’Angelo is a native of Parsippany, New Jersey. He attended Penn State University and was commissioned as an Ensign through the NROTC program after graduation in May 1986. He completed Surface Warfare Officer School in Newport, Rhode Island, and reported to the USS FORRESTAL, (CV 59) where he completed a deployment to the North Arabian Sea and earned his Surface Warfare Officer designation.
     In November 1989, he reported for flight training and he received his wings as a naval aviator in April 1991. After completing SH-3H Sea King training at HS-1 in Jacksonville, Florida, he reported to the Dragonslayers of HS-11 and deployed twice on the USS AMERICA (CV 66) in support of operations in the Arabian Gulf, in the Adriatic Sea and in Somalia. In May 1994, he reported to HS-1 where he served as an FRS Instructor Pilot in both the H-3 and H-60 helicopters.
     From November 1996 until November 1998, he was assigned to the staff of Commander, Carrier Air Wing One where he deployed to the Arabian Gulf onboard USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73). He reported back to the HS-11 Dragonslayers in November 1998 where he served as Operations and Maintenance Officer and deployed to the Arabian Gulf aboard USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV 67). He served as Executive Officer of HS-10, the SH-60F/HH-60H FRS, in NAS North Island, California, from January 2001 through June 2002. He returned to HS-11 as Executive Officer, in July 2002 and assumed command in September 2003. He led the squadron through a deployment onboard USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM.
     From February 2005 until October 2006, he served on the staff of Commander, Naval Air Forces in NAS North Island. He attended the College of Naval Warfare in Newport, Rhode Island from November 2006 through November 2007, then was assigned as the Chief of Staff for the Combined Maritime Forces on the staff of Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command until March 2009. Captain D’Angelo is currently assigned a member of the faculty at the U.S. Naval War College.
     Captain D’Angelo holds a Master of Science Degree from Central Michigan University, and a Master of Arts from the U.S. Naval War College.
