Profile

Commander David M. Huntoon is a Military Professor of Strategy and Policy, in the Strategy and Policy Department of the United States Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island. 
 
Commissioned through Aviation Officer Candidate School in 1991, he has served in various Naval Aviation Squadron assignments in Florida, Texas, California, and Virginia and Italy. He is a designated Naval Aviator with over 3500 hours in various carrier based and logistics aircraft and logged over 300 carrier landings. In his twenty years of service he has completed carrier-based deployments in the E-2C Hawkeye and also has extensive global operational experience in the C-9D and C-20A. He has served as an Airwing and Training Landing Signals Officer, Fleet Replacement Squadron Instructor Pilot, Fleet Pilot Standardization Evaluator, Squadron Aviation Safety Officer, Aviation Squadron Maintenance Officer and Aviation Squadron Operations Officer. Prior to his assignment to the Naval War College he served as the Flag Pilot for Commander, Naval Forces Europe, and Officer in Charge of Executive Transport Detachment based in Sicily, Italy from 2006-2008.  
 
He is a 1990 graduate of the University of Vermont where he earned a B.A. in Business Administration and was awarded an M.A. in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in 2005.
