Colonel Brent E. Barnes, U.S. Army, joined the National Security Affairs faculty and U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) studies group in July 2011 and teaches the Leadership Concepts course. He was a Distinguished Military Graduate with a B.S. in Biology as well as a M.A. in Administration both from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. He also holds a M.A. in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island. Additionally, he is a graduate of the Joint Forces Staff College in Norfolk, Virginia where he completed Joint Professional Military Education Phase-II.
He entered military service in November of 1990 and has served among five combatant commands in a variety of command and staff positions as a logistician. Command tours at the company level were with the 25th Infantry Division in the U.S. Pacific Command as well as the United States Army South in the U.S. Southern Command. He also had a squadron command tour with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment at the National Training Center in Fort Irwin, California. His joint staff officer tours include the U.S. Joint Forces Command and the U.S. European Command. Prior to graduating from the U.S. Naval War College in 2011, he served as the Deputy Commanding Officer for the 45th Sustainment Brigade within the U.S. CENTCOM in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
