NEWPORT, R.I. - Dr. Hayat Alvi presented a paper during the American Political Science Association (APSA) conference in Seattle, Washington, Sept. 1-4.

(Photo provided by Hayat Alvi)Her paper on "Iran's Nuclear Program: The Right to Nuclear Deterrence, or Illegal WMD?" was included on a panel for "International Security and Nonproliferation."  She also chaired a panel entitled "Terrorism and Counter-terrorism," where colleagues discussed topics such as how terrorist organizations survive, troop surges in response to terrorism, negotiation, and politics.
 
Dr. Alvi teaches the National Security Policy Analysis courses for the U.S. Naval War College's National Security Affairs Department.  Her specializations include International Relations, Political Economy, Comparative Politics, Islamic Studies, and Middle East and South Asian Studies.

A published author, she is currently working on her next book, Nonviolent Activism in Islam:  The Message of Abul Kalam Azad.
