Professor John B. Hattendorf, Chair of the Maritime History Department, authored a chapter entitled “George Washington’s Navy,” in Edward G. Lengel, ed., A Companion to George Washington. (Chichester: Wiley-Blackwell, 2012), pp. 302-319.

Maj. Matthew Hover, International Law Department, served as course director and instructor for a Non-International Armed Conflict (NIAC) workshop at the International Institute of Humanitarian Law in San Remo, Italy May 21-23. The workshop examined the complex and ambiguous legal regime applicable to NIAC and the impact it had on operations in military, government, and non-government organizations.

Professor Mary Raum,National Security Affairs Department, spoke at the Veterans
Administration in Providence Rhode Island on the history of female POW’s in the military. The Veterans Health Administration awarded Raum with a certificate for work relative to Veteran Affairs.

Professor Tom Nichols , National Security Affairs Department , was awarded the Petra Shattuck Memorial Award for Excellence in Teaching from Harvard University Extension School, Harvard's evening continuing education program,  during their 2012 commencement exercises.
