Twenty congressional staff members visited the Naval War College (NWC), March 31, as part of a caseworker workshop, coordinated by the Navy's Office of Legislative Affairs. Rear Adm. Phil Wisecup, president of NWC, provided the staff members with an overview of the college's scope and mission. Professor Dave DellaVolpe also gave them a tour of War Gaming Department, including a stop at the Joint Command Center facility.
The group's visit to NWC was incorporated into a two-day orientation to the Navy in Newport, R.I. The trip also included observing damage control training, touring the Surface Warfare Officer School Command mission bridge and littoral combat ship trainer, speaking with senior enlisted leadership from the Senior Enlisted Academy, and learning about the Navy through briefs from Naval Station Newport, recruiting, Fleet and Family Support, and Navy Personnel Command personnel.
