Maj. Jeff Thurnher, International Law Department, attended the International Institute of Humanitarian Law's 12th Annual Summer Course in Sanremo Italy 25 June-6 July 2012. The session focused on the latest developments of the Law of Armed Conflict and brought together international law experts from around the world.

Capt. Erik Wright, National Security Affairs department, and his wife Karen led a "Command Couple" seminar for the Prospective Commanding Officers' Spouse class at Command Leadership School, Newport, R.I. This discussion is a standard part of the spouse curriculum and focuses on challenges associated with command from both the commander's and the spouse's perspectives.

Professors Larry McCabe, Sean Sullivan and Jim Cook, National Security Affairs, conducted a Caribbean security workshop in St. ann, Jamaica July 9-13. The Naval War College worked with faculty from the University of the West Indies to facilitate a discussion and develop strategies on key security concerns of the region to include infiltration of drug cartels, terrorism, natural disasters and economic impact and consequences of the global economic recession.

Cmdr. Gordon Muir, War Gaming, explains the role of the aircraft carrier to a group of local high school students during a visit to McCarty-Little Hall, July 9. The students were participating in a five-day Starship Poseidon-STEM camp that includes classroom and laboratory instruction in physics, chemistry mathematics, astronomy, and English.

Professor Sean Henseler,College of Operational and Strategic Leadership, lectured student leaders from 17 middle eastern nations who are in the U.S. attending a 1-month course hosted by Roger Williams University. The state sponsored course is part of the U.S.-Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI). MEPI offers assistance, training, and support to groups and individuals striving to bring change to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).
