NEWPORT, R.I. - Yeoman First Class Petty Officer (AW/EXW) Joshua Dempsey was awarded Sailor of the Quarter at the U.S. Naval War College (NWC) for work in the Operational Support Office, even though he has only been at NWC since June.YN1 (AW/EXW) Joshua Dempsey was awarded Sailor of the Quarter at the U.S. Naval War College (NWC) for work in the Operational Support Office,  even though he has only been at NWC since June.

“It’s good to stand out amongst your peers,” Dempsey said of the award. “It’s definitely an honor for me.”
 
He was recognized by NWC President Rear Adm. Phil Wisecup at an awards ceremony on Nov. 17. 

Dempsey said the staff members at NWC offer a challenging environment. “The E-6s I’m competing against are some of the best I’ve ever worked with,” he said.
 
Dempsey served at Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadron Eight before OSO, where he assists allocation of reservists when departments need them. He has been in the Navy for 11 years, and has earned competency awards in expeditionary warfare, and he has general knowledge of helicopters.
