Gaborone, Botswana – Dr. Rick Norton, Dr. Dave Burbach and Professor Larry McCabe of the National Security Affairs Department facilitated a workshop on “Strategy, Concepts and Budgets” at the Botswana Defense Force Defence Command and Staff College in Gaborone, Botswana from July 30- August 3.

The workshop was coordinated and delivered in coordination with AFRICOM, US Naval Forces Africa and the US Embassy, Gaborone in support of Africa theater security objectives.

“Botswana is rapidly becoming a leader in southern Africa and is a strategic regional partner of the United States in our attempts to promote stability and security in the region. This workshop provides the strategic perspective and strategy implementation techniques to the best of the best officers in the BDF. They want and need this education” said LTC Joshua Reitz. The U.S. Defense Attaché.

McCabe, Burbach and Norton led discussions on the global and regional  security environment, operational concept and capability development and defense planning and budgeting techniques. They also divided the students into syndicates and supervised the student’s efforts to build a strategy and implementation plan for Botswana.

“This is exactly the type of support we need” said BG Shadrack Moloi, the prospective Director of the College. “We need to learn to think differently about security and our role in the global community.”
