NEWPORT, R.I. - Interior Communications Electrician 2nd Class General Grant Livingston has recently been named the 2009 Newport Naval Complex Navy League of Newport County Junior Enlisted Service Member of the Year.
Five people were nominated for this award and nominees were selected based on their outstanding professional performance during the calendar year. In addition to professional performance, the nominees were judged on their community involvement, volunteerism and exceptional contributions to the command mission beyond assigned tasks.
Livingston, who works for the Naval War College's War Gaming Department, has been in the Navy for eight and a half years, deploying once. He served in Norfolk, Va., on USS Dwight D. Eisenhower before going to school and moving down to Jacksonville Fla. where he served on USS John F. Kennedy. Livingston has been at the Naval War College since 2008, where he’s enjoyed the job but could do without the Rhode Island winters! He is here with his wife who is expecting a child in three months. Livingston feels very proud and honored to be receiving this recognition.
The Newport County Navy League of the United States, along with various Newport area service clubs, honor outstanding personnel from the Naval Station commands. The personnel selected to be honored included a Junior Officer, a Senior Enlisted Service Member, a Junior Enlisted Service Member and a Blue Jacket of the Year. The winners will be recognized individually at events held in their honor.
